about the word writer person:

I Like This Song - Cody Lynn Boyd's "Freaks Of The Night" by Prewitt Scott-Jackson

I Like This Song celebrates songs by local bands sans clichéd music journo over-analysis.

Today's featured song comes from Cody Lynn Boyd's 2016 full-length, The Late Recordings.

This song has a pulse, it really cuts. If for some reason you find yourself not singing along with the refrain "I am a freak of the night," you may want to visit the clinic to confirm you ain't one of them lifeless zombies Boyd sings about on the record.

CLB can be found on stage this Wednesday, Feb. 22nd at The Live Oak w/ Dead Mockingbirds and that spicy dudeness Sir Steve Gnash (ICYMI, check the feature we did on Gnash back in November).

Doors at 8pm, full event details posted here. Btw, THIS SHOW IS FREE!!!

Okay y'all, thinking this one deserves the oldest trick in the book treatment:

[taps your right shoulder while standing on your left then screams "I like this song!" in lieu of "I gotcha!"]

Today's featured song is the opening track and namesake of Daniel Markham's celebrated 2016 full-length album.

For this running feature we typically embed links to songs on Bandcamp, but Markham's black-and-white monochromatic music video forced our hand. S/o to Judd Myers and crew for the quality film and production work.

You can catch Mr. Markham on stage this Friday, Feb. 17th at The Grotto w/ two euphonious Fort Worth bands in the form of Un Chien and Jefferson Colby.

Doors at 9pm. DM kicks off the show at 10pm. Event details posted here.

Today's featured song comes from The Prof. Fuzz 63's freshly minted Panda Attack EP. The EP contains four re-recorded tracks from the Professor's celebrated 2016 release, Chinese Folk Songs.

Cloudland's resident mixmaster Britt Robisheaux once again helmed the ship on the production side, beefing up the tracks along with drum stylings provided by a new drummer, one Mr. B of Devonshire.*

*DISCLAIMER: So he's not really from the county of Devon. Just sounds hella regal, you should try it. Take your name and then place 'of Devonshire' behind it. You only live once.

Today's featured song is the 2016 single release from 817 rockers Treehouse Cabaret. They score points in my book for both the band name and the song title.

Seriously, they're so good at naming things, thinking I'm gonna bring them on as a consultant to name my future children.

Today's featured song and accompanying music video comes from Animal Spirit and their soon-to-be-released album "This is Relevant," due out in February.

New music from this wondrous Fort Worth band started my 2017 on the right foot when they released the above vid for "Doom Surf" this past New Year's Day.

If this track is a harbinger of what's to come, get stoked about their new record Fort Worthians.

Wait for it. Wait for it.

Surely you've heard the news by now but Tripping Daisy is back y'all!!!

Per the band's social media pages on Jan. 4th, The Daisy are set to perform at this year's Homegrown Music & Arts Festival May 13th, 2017.

All the feels + happy face emoji x holy meerkat(!) because I will be seeing Tripping Daisy on stage once again in this lifetime.

It's been nearly 18 years since they performed under the Tripping Daisy moniker. To give you an idea, this is what I looked like last time I saw Tripping Daisy live ...

When their album Bill re-released on Island Records and my ears first set upon that otherworldly opening track "My Umbrella," it changed my outlook on what local D/FW bands were capable of, it gave me a great sense of pride to say, "That's right, this band is from my hometown."

And now, in 2017, after a year's worth of shit bad news, they're back. Praise Saint DeLaughter, they're back.

Prekindle has tix for sale here.

One last thing: I like this song.
