Whoa-MG! Happy Valentine's Day to us.

Yesterday the social media accounts for Fortress Festival promised a big announcement set to detonate this Wednesday, Feb. 15th...

At FWN we proudly specialize in speculation, hype and delusion; subsequently we'll be following through on all of the above with news of yesterday's tease.

---

Who? What? When? Where? How? Somebody throw us a bone here!

It's cool. We got you.

Here's a few possibilities for the Fortress Festival announcement tomorrow:

1. "I feel just like a local god when I'm with the boys"

My gut and my heart are telling me there's goin' to be a another local act added to the lineup. Ya know? Like, a big one. Toadies, Leon Bridges, DRD, something of that ilk.

Deathray Davies could be a sweet addition to Fortress Festival - Image via DRD's Facebook Page

2. "Blame it on the rain, yeah yeah"

A SPECIAL FORTRESS FESTIVAL TASK FORCE HAS UNCOVERED MILLI VANILLI REALLY DID SING ON GIRL YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE ... CLEARING THEIR NAME AND CLEARING THE WAY FOR A MOST EPIC COMEBACK VIA LIVE PERFORMANCE ON THE FORTRESS FESTIVAL STAGE!!!*

*so one of the 'illis passed away and I'm roughly 100000% certain they did NOT sing on that record.. but eff it, one can dream

I want both these hats btw

I want both these hats btw

3. "Yeahhhhhhhhhhh boyyyyyyyyyyyy!"

This festival deserves a hype man, a herald, an emcee!!!

Bring on Andrew W.K. or Bernie Sanders! Or maybe that Texas Law Hawk lawyer kid, or that dude Gallagher that smashes watermelons.

Anyone, truly, I'll take any of 'em.

Gallagher as Fortress Festival Master of Ceremonies? Sign. Us. Up.

Gallagher as Fortress Festival Master of Ceremonies? Sign. Us. Up.

So there you have it, three seriously realistic possibilities in play for tomorrow's announcement.

*fills out application to Clairvoyant College*

UPDATE: So... we received a form rejection letter from Clairvoyant College - apparently, we suck at this. On Wednesday, Feb. 15th Fortress Festival released the daily schedule and began the sale of single day tickets.

Show Poster of The Week - Brutal Juice Vinyl Release Party at Lola's by Prewitt Scott-Jackson

Once a week FWN features a show poster from the Fort.

---

This week's featured show poster gave me a small case of the chills (in a good way). The bloody font + demon-eyed blind dude combination set amongst a smattering of illuminati-like geometry proved too much for me to ignore.

The poster promotes Brutal Juice’s vinyl release show at Lola’s this Saturday, Feb. 11th. Do For It Records bands The Spectacle and Mountain of Smoke round out the night’s lineup.

Doors open at 8PM, event details here.

Speaking of Do For It, James, the man behind the Do For It brand, produced this poster thru DFI's sister company Do For It Design.

The triangle/circle imagery is commonly linked to the All-Seeing Eye and that's where I see a beautiful twist of irony with James' image: the man depicted within the triangle appears to be blind.

All-Seeing Eye Imagery

All-Seeing Eye Imagery

I cannot make out exactly which shapes are being drawn in the background image, but the graph paper certainly stands out and that's something I associate with sacred geometry, et al. More spooky chills down my spine!!

The poster's aesthetic nailed the theme of the event, aligning perfectly with the bands on Saturday night's bill. One of the main tenets any good show poster designer lives by is matching the poster's aesthetic to the show's overall aesthetic. In this regard, James impressively excelled.

The colors pop as does the imagery and when it's pulled all together we have a show poster that stood out to me this week.

S/o to James on the design and cheers to the Brutal Juice gang on the vinyl release!

I Like This Song - Jack Thunder & The Road Soda's "Capt. Adaptive" by Prewitt Scott-Jackson

I Like This Song celebrates songs by local bands sans clichéd music journo over-analysis.

The furthest we take the dissection of songs featured here is, well, you guessed it: "I Like This Song."

Today's featured song comes from Fort Worth's Jack Thunder & The Road Soda's 2015 Dreamy Life release JT & RS.

As A1 big time fans of any type of road soda, it's highly probable we're gonna like any song put out by JT & the RS based on principle alone.

You can catch the Kerouac-esque duo road trippin' for the Fairmount Library anniversary party this Saturday, Feb. 11th at Shipping & Receiving w/ bonus musical virtuosity provided by Movie the Band, Programme, and Vogue Machine.

10 Questions Interview w/ The Me-Thinks + Stoogeaphilia by Prewitt Scott-Jackson

Welcome to a Special Edition of FWN's 10 Questions Interview.

We are honored to have not one, but two legendary 817 bands - The Me-Thinks and Stoogeaphilia - combine their powers to bring you the most voluminous 10 Questions Interview to date.

We got Marlin from The Me-Thinks along with Ray (The Me-Thinks & Stoogeaphilia) plus answers from Ken, Matt and Richard of Stoogeaphilia. Revel in it!

1. Dogs or Cats? Why?

RAY:  Cats.  Because they are Outlaws, Satan Worshippers and I love them!

MARLIN:  Pork or beef usually, but whatever.

KEN:  Self-evident. (Funny: Sir Marlin Von Bungy couldn't believe that there was someone in this band called "Katboy" and that it wasn't Ray. It isn't me, either.)

MATT:  Cats, because they don't give a fuck. Until they do, then they give ALL the fucks. And you must, as well, servant human.

RICHARD:  Both. Although leaning towards dogs more these days. I've handled my share of cat box treats.

2. Aliens. Do they exist?

RAY:  I fucking hope so.  No way humans are the A-#1 Duke of the Universe.

MARLIN:  Of course. But don't tell the orange president.

KEN:  I want to speak to an attorney.

MATT:  Statistically speaking, they must. Hopefully they are nicer than us. And if not, hopefully they never find us.

RICHARD:  Certainly.

3. Drug of choice? (None is not an option btw)

RAY:  Romantic Comedies (on Weed!)

MARLIN:  Depends on whether the question is coming from my probation officer. Lets just say none to be safe. But talk to me later.

KEN:  Endorphin.

MATT:  If I had to pick one, it would be Diet Dr. Pepper.

RICHARD:  A good ol' PCP laced, red wine enema.

Image via Stoogeaphilia's Facebook Page - Photo by Jose L. Serrato Jr.

4. Brown or white gravy? (Neither is not an option btw)

RAY:  I am allowed no gravy.  Sore subject.  Next Question!

MARLIN:  White.

KEN:  Alfredo.

MATT:  I will avoid gravy-choice evangelism and say that both have their moments. White on biscuits, anything chicken-fried, potatos, grits, starchy things. Brown on turkey & dressing, potatos, beef dishes. Really, if somebody sets gravy down in front of me, it's going on my food. Period.

RICHARD:  I kind of agree with Matt on these things.

5. Favorite weapon of mass destruction?

RAY:  Favorite?  Giant earthbound Asteroid/Meteor would be rad on an Extinction Event/Out of My Control level.  But if I had to pick how I wanted everyone to die?  Maybe a heroin bomb.

MARLIN:  Taco Casa Taco Lite.

KEN:  Stratocaster.

MATT:  Targeted asteroids.

RICHARD:  Music.

6. Favorite marsupial?

RAY:  Koala.  Because a Platypus is a Monotreme not a Marsupial.

MARLIN:  Never been to Mars before.

KEN:  My Wife.

MATT:  Possum. Did you know female marsupials have two vaginas, and males have bifurcated penises? Penii? Penes? Penae? I digress...

RICHARD:  Tasmanian Devils.

Image via Stoogeaphilia's Facebook Page - Photo by Nick Huff

Image via Stoogeaphilia's Facebook Page - Photo by Nick Huff

7. Favorite Superhero?

RAY:  Bizarro Ted Cruz.

MARLIN:  Wonder Woman.

KEN:  Jon Teague.

MATT:  According to my friend Daniel, I'm already a superhero. My super power is the Power of Indifference. If not me, then Zorlak the Avenger.

RICHARD:  El Duce!

8. Did Dez catch it?

RAY:  I was always a Keith Morris/Ron Reyes guy.

MARLIN:  that is between him and his doctor. None of my business.

KEN:  Who is Dez?  What is “It”?

MATT:  This is a sports question, right? No clue, not a big sports fan.

RICHARD:  Is this a Black Flag reference?

9. When you die, if you were given the choice to come back as any animal, which would you choose?

RAY:  The Lazy Trinity of I do what I want…House Cat, Otter or Three-Toed Sloth.

MARLIN:  The one from the Muppet Movie.

KEN:  See first reply.

MATT:  An alien superhero, Zorlak the Avenger. Then I could prove #2 conclusively.

RICHARD:  Party Animal.

10. The best MJ is: Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Mike Jones, or Milla Jovovich?

RAY:  Mick Jones because he was in the Clash and Foreigner.

MARLIN: Is Mick Jones an option? That would be my answer. Either from Foreigner or the one from the Clash.

KEN:  Michael Jackson.

MATT:  Multi-pass.

RICHARD:  Mick Jones.

Hold my beer. What was that? Run The Jewels is set to perform in the 817 area code? You sure about that? You sure it wasn't the 214 or 972? Or even the 940 area code??

A week later it's finally hitting me; this is not a drill. I repeat: THIS IS NOT A DRILL !!!

You simply don't ever see the likes of an act as relevant as RTJ in the 817. For that reason alone the team behind Fortress Festival should be commended.

While RTJ more than deserves the headliner moniker, the entire lineup from top to bottom is staggeringly impressive.

To celebrate last week's lineup announcement, we thought what better way to raise our glasses than to collate music videos for every act set to perform at the end of April.

Speaking of, the festival runs April 29th & 30th and it's all happening in the cultural district downtown. For more info click here. For tickets click here.

Without further ado, we present you with the Fortress Festival lineup ... music vid style ... Pt. I
